For the past two weeks, English class has NOT been dedicated to the normal beginning of the year routines! With few exceptions in Years 3-6, we have spent our time preparing for last Friday\u2019s celebration of the European Day of Languages.<\/p>\n

It is the first time that we have celebrated this important day in Alqueria, and it was a wonderful success.<\/p>\n

Our celebrations began during the morning break when music from many different countries across Europe was played over the speaker system. (Thank you Elena!) The Year 4 students made and served a special snack featuring cookies from France, English shortbread and Italian biscotti. The treats were a delight!<\/p>\n

The children in Year 3 prepared a sign stating \u201cOur school is wonderful,\u201d in as many of the 23 official languages of Europe as we were able.<\/p>\n

Year 5, each representing a different European country, \u201chosted\u201d students from years 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 to teach them about their flag, map, capital city, important rivers, head of state, and the numbers and names of languages spoken in each country. All the information was shared in English, our second language. The children also practiced asking for how to say \u201chello<\/em>\u201d and \u201cI love you<\/em>\u201d in the languages of each country.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, all of the students in primary were entertained by the Year 6 students and their multi-lingual skits about being a new student in an English\/French speaking international school! A terrific job was done by all!<\/p>\n

As you can see from these photos, the experience was enjoyed by all of primary and we are looking forward to expanding the celebrations in coming years.<\/p>\n

Through our celebrations, we hope to expose and encourage everyone to take up language learning and to meet the standard set by the European Union Constitution which encourages multilingualism for all of its citizens. \u00a0(Click on the flag to see comments from one EU official regarding multilingualism in Europe.)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a1Durante las \u00faltimas dos semanas, la clase de Ingl\u00e9s NO se ha dedicado\u00a0al comienzo normal de las rutinas de a\u00f1o! Con pocas excepciones en las clases de tercero a sexto, hemos empleado nuestro tiempo a la preparaci\u00f3n de la celebraci\u00f3n del D\u00eda Europeo de las Lenguas que lleva celebrando cada 26 de Septiembre desde 2001.<\/p>\n

Es la primera vez que hemos celebrado este d\u00eda tan importante en Alquer\u00eda, y fue un \u00e9xito maravilloso.<\/p>\n

Nuestras celebraciones comenzaron durante el descanso de la ma\u00f1ana cuando la m\u00fasica de numerosos pa\u00edses de toda Europa sonaban en todo el colegio por los altavoces. (Gracias Elena!) Los alumnos de cuarto hicieron y sirvieron un aperitivo especial con galletas de Francia, shortbread Ingl\u00e9s y biscotti italianos. Los dulces eran una delicia!<\/p>\n

Los ni\u00f1os de tercero prepararon un cartel que dec\u00eda \u00abNuestra escuela es maravillosa\u00bb, en un gran n\u00famero de las 23 lenguas oficiales de Europa.<\/p>\n

Los alumnos de quinto, cada uno representando a un pa\u00eds diferente de Europa, fueron anfitriones para los estudiantes de primero, segundo, tercero, cuarto, y sexto. Atendieron a estos grupos para ense\u00f1arles acerca de su mapa, bandera, ciudad (capitales), r\u00edos importantes, jefe de estado, y los n\u00fameros y nombres de los idiomas que se hablan en cada pa\u00eds. Toda la informaci\u00f3n que se comparte en Ingl\u00e9s, nuestro segundo idioma. Los ni\u00f1os tambi\u00e9n practicaron pidiendo c\u00f3mo decir \u00abHola\u00bb y \u00abTe amo\u00bb en los idiomas de cada pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n

Por \u00faltimo, pero no menos importante, todos los estudiantes en primaria fueron entretenidos por los actores y actrices de sexto y sus teatrillos biling\u00fces (Ingles\/Franc\u00e9s) acerca de ser un nuevo estudiante en una escuela internacional! Excelente trabajo hecho por todos!<\/p>\n

Como se puede ver en estas fotos, la experiencia fue disfrutada por todos de primaria y tenemos ganas de repetir las celebraciones el curso que viene.<\/p>\n

A trav\u00e9s de nuestras celebraciones, esperamos poder exponer y animar a todos a asumir el aprendizaje de idiomas y para cumplir con la norma establecida por la Constituci\u00f3n de la Uni\u00f3n Europea que fomenta el multiling\u00fcismo para todos sus ciudadanos.<\/p>\n
