The Things Around Us in our Class

Hello!

As our little «Yellows» explore their terrace and build and draw with Nuria, I want to provide you with some resources in English for the same materials they are using in Spanish!  So, here is the «virtual English class» of the week so you can review the parts of their world at Alquería.

Part of every class routine is tidying up after we play.  We have MANY songs to help us with this job.

Here are a few:

Let’s move!

A big part of every class is moving, dancing and singing!  Here is a song to start you off with the basics of movement in English.  This is classroom language we use everyday!

Hello! Welcome to English Class!

Welcome back Blue Class! We are glad you came Light Blues!

It is a pleasure to see last year’s light blue babes in the Blue class this year.

And it is wonderful to meet and get to know the new students in the Light Blue class! After almost a month of school, each day when I walk into class there is less noise from crying and more noise from happy play!

Though English started on the very first day, we are still adapting to each other and the routines that school brings. Therefore, English class has been mostly about sharing our fruit snack and free play time. It has been wonderful to see how students look at me with interest when I begin to speak to them about their toys are how they are feeling in English. I am looking forward more snack times and starting to go down to the big patio for play!

Here is a video revising some basic toy names.

Indoor Toys!

What a wonderful start back in English class this term in the Blue/Light Blue English classes.  We picked up our English class routine right where we left it before the holidays—eating our fruit together, talking about its name and color. (Usually we eat green pears, but sometimes we have oranges.)

There has been one difference from the majority of our pre-Christmas classes. After our morning snack, usually we go outside to play.  However, since Christmas it has been to wet, cold, or too many students have had bad colds, so we have played inside. It has been wonderful playing with balls, cars and trucks and animals together.  This is the first time we have had the opportunity to use such a wide range of toy names together.  What’s more, now that the students are more vocal in general, more students are trying to reproduce the sounds they are hearing in English.  It is so much fun to hear the littlest children at school trying to express themselves in English too.  We will keep playing inside until the weather cooperates (or flu season passes) and we can go out again!

In the Patio

The blue class is increasingly comfortable listening to English and using vocabulary related to their daily lives at school, both inside and outside of the classroom.  After eating our fruit, usually bananas and pears, we get ready to go outside.  We go potty, put on our jackets, tie our shoes. Depending on the weather we go down the stairs, singing, “going backwards, going backwards, down we go” to the tune of Frère Jacque.  If the ground is wet, then we simply go out on the terrace.  We play with the different toys depending on the day and out location.  In the past two weeks we have had fun playing with trucks and balls, playing peek-a-boo near the slide and riding the motorcycles.
