Gravity by Coldplay

Baby,
It’s been a long time _ _ _ _ _ _,
Such a long, long time.
And I can’t stop _ _ _ _ _ _ _,
Such a long, long time.
_ _ _ you hear my heart beating?
Can you hear that sound?
Cause I can’t help _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
And I _ _ _ ‘_ stop now

And then I _ _ _ _ _ _ up at the sun and I could see
Oh, the way that gravity _ _ _ _ _ on you and me,
And then I looked up at the sky and _ _ _ the sun,
And the way that gravity _ _ _ _ _ _  on everyone,
On everyone.

Baby,
When your wheels stop turning
And you _ _ _ _ let down
And it seems like troubles
Have _ _ _ _ all around
I can _ _ _ _ your heart beating,
I _ _ _ hear that sound,
And I can’t help thinking.
And I _ _ _’_ look now.

And then I looked up at the sun and I _ _ _ _ _ see
Oh, the way that gravity pulls on you and me,
And then I _ _ _ _ _ _  up at the sky and saw the sun
And the way that gravity pushes on everyone
On everyone
On everyone

English and World Events

Sometimes English class isn’t about English.  Sometimes, it needs to be about discussing the world in English.

Some more historical vocabulary for you…

The world is witnessing horrors in Ukraine right now as they suffer under Russian shelling*.

Year 6– you impressed me today with your knowledge about another time the world nervously watched Russia’s every move and listened carefully to words from the Kremlin* to determine the level of danger.  Many of you knew the basics about the Cold War*– the political and economic war waged between the USSR* and the USA, and their NATO* allies after WWII* until the 1990’s.

While this song evokes another moment in history, the message rings loud and clear in the hearts of parents everywhere today: We hope the Russians love their children too.

So, just in case  you want to listen again, here is Russians, by Sting.

*shelling- being attacked by bombs

*Kremlin- the seat of Russian government

*Cold War- the economic and political war between  Western allies and the *Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

*NATO- North Atlantic Treaty Organization (OTAN)

*WWII – World War Two
