This is my house

This is my house

We love our homes! This month, our Primary 2 students have been learning all about the house, its rooms, furniture, and what routines we do in each place of our home.

We’ve explored the parts of the house and objects inside:

  • living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, garden
  • sofa, bed, table, chair, lamp, window

Through songs, drawings, teamwork and oral presentations, children are learning to describe their homes in English.

Examples of sentences we use:

  • This is my house.
  • There is a big kitchen.
  • In the kitchen there is an oven.
  • In the living room there are chairs.
  • In the garden you can see trees, a table and a swimming pool.
  • I sleep in my bedroom.
  • We eat in the dining room.

Students designed a drawing or house plan of their home and did an oral presentation to share with the rest of classmates. Also, we did teamwork helping them to share ideas and practise English together. This way, children are improving:

  • Vocabulary and grammar (there is/there are, prepositions, house and furniture words)
  • Speaking and listening skills
  • Teamwork and creativity

Each child presented their home in English and some of the sentences they practised are:

This is my house. It has a kitchen, a bathroom, and two bedrooms. My bedroom is blue. In my bedroom there is a big bed and a beautiful carpet. I like my living room. I play in the living room with my family.

We are very proud of their wonderful effort and enthusiasm!

Have a nice weekend and see you all on Monday!

Lots of love from: Teacher Bárbara and Teacher Ana

We love animals

We love animals!

During these weeks in our English classes, Primary 1 students have been learning about farm animals and wild animals!Through songs, games, drawings and riddles, children are discovering new vocabulary and useful verbs while having fun and speaking English. Some of the speaking activities we’ve been doing are:

We practised descriptive sentences to identify animals by their habitat, appearance, and abilities:

  • This animal lives in the jungle.
  • It is big and brown.
  • It can swim.
  • It likes bananas.

These short sentences help children use verbs such as to be, to have, can, to live, to eat, etc. Students described and drew their favourite animals and did an oral little presentation in front of their classmates saying for example…

This is a lion. The lion is brown and big. Lions live in the jungle. Lions can roar and run.

We also played with some riddles and guessed the animals that matches the descriptions. For example:

“I’m grey and have a long trunk. Who am I?”
“I can jump and I like bananas. Who am I?”

Here you have some of our favourite animal songs:

Learning about animals helps us to understand the importance of loving our planet Earth and all the living creatures on it. Also, using English in real contexts and interested topics for kids make the learning a fun process and build confidence in them.

Thanks and see you all on Monday! Have a beautiful weekend!
