This is my house
We love our homes! This month, our Primary 2 students have been learning all about the house, its rooms, furniture, and what routines we do in each place of our home.
We’ve explored the parts of the house and objects inside:
living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, garden
sofa, bed, table, chair, lamp, window
Through songs, drawings, teamwork and oral presentations, children are learning to describe their homes in English.
Examples of sentences we use:
This is my house.
There is a big kitchen.
In the kitchen there is an oven.
In the living room there are chairs.
In the garden you can see trees, a table and a swimming pool.
I sleep in my bedroom.
We eat in the dining room.
Students designed a drawing or house plan of their home and did an oral presentation to share with the rest of classmates. Also, we did teamwork helping them to share ideas and practise English together. This way, children are improving:
- Vocabulary and grammar (there is/there are, prepositions, house and furniture words)
- Speaking and listening skills
- Teamwork and creativity
Each child presented their home in English and some of the sentences they practised are:
This is my house. It has a kitchen, a bathroom, and two bedrooms. My bedroom is blue. In my bedroom there is a big bed and a beautiful carpet. I like my living room. I play in the living room with my family.
We are very proud of their wonderful effort and enthusiasm!
