English and French Years 1, 2

Hi everyone! First of all, I wanted to show you my apologies for not having updated the blog during the last days -as you already know, I’ve just arrived to the school and needed some lessons about how the blog works (thanks, Lindley and Isa!)

Now that I’ve learned some basic steps (hopefully I will get used to it as I practice with these first messages), I wanted to tell you what we’ve been doing during these last two weeks in class.

Let me start with French 🇫🇷🥐

After having made a small revision of what they already know in French (yes! They already know some french words even in Year 1, as we have some similar words in French and Spanish (croissant, chef, chalet, gruyère… and they showed a lot of interest when they discovered these similarities!), we moved to the Autumn. We played the Autumn Bingo -which they loved- and listened to some French songs (they always ask for this one, they love to sing and dance!):

As for English, I will only talk today about Year 1, as Lindley already posted an entry some days ago about Year 2 🙂

We have been learning the school supplies and then linked the subject with the colours. This allowed me to discover how much English they all already know!

They loved every single media we used during these two weeks, so I’ll leave here some of them:

And this one for the colours! They love it and they also revise some basic vocabulary like lemon, apple, frog… 🙂

See you in this space again soon!

ORANGE, RED AND GREEN CLASSES:OCTOBER

Hi everyone! First of all, I wanted to show you my apologies for not having updated the blog during the last days -as you already know, I’ve just arrived to the school and needed some lessons about how the blog works (thanks, Lindley and Isa!)

Now that I’ve learned some basic steps (hopefully I will get used to it as I practice with these first messages), let me talk to you about what we’ve been doing during these last two weeks in the Orange, Red and Green Class.

Orange Class

Starting every class with the greetings and some songs they already know (Hello Song, the Colours Song…) we played a lot with the colours, both in the classroom and in the park. Taking advantage of one of the pupils’ birthday, we also blew up some balloons and talked about their colours while dancing to the music. Every day, we’ve been talking about the weather and autumn. We simulated being some autumn elements (wind, leaves, squirrels, little frogs…)

One day, we went with Silvia for a walk to La Vega, and we learned how beautiful the autumn landscape can be!

The students will  recognize this song:

Red Class

I was so happy to discover to what extent they already understand English! We’ve been learning some fruits and vegetables, playing withg the classroom toys («I want a tomato, please!») One day, we coloured some vegetables flashcards and they had to ask in English for the colour they wanted to use. Then, we made a presentation of their own «Fruit and vegetables flashcards» and they were so proud of them! They quickly said which fruit/vegetable  it was and its colour («A brown potato«, etc.)

We also sang a lot and talked about the autumn and the weather (I am pretty sure that their favourite song this unit has been this one!):

Green Class

We’ve been mainly learning the parts of the body, also talking about the colours, the weather, and celebrating one of the pupils’ birthday!

They had real fun singing and dancing some body songs, but what they really loved is to play Simon Says while they learned some body parts and some actions related to them («Simon says ‘Touch your nose‘!, etc.)

This was their favourite song! (Our two bilingual pupils inherently invited the rest of the class to sing the «Here we go!» part, which was so enriching for everyone!):

I’ll be updating weekly from next week on, see you soon!

Reconnecting with my youngest students….

Hello families of the Orange class!

It’s Lindley here again!  What a pleasure to be with the orange class as a guest English teacher this week!

Though I see all the children in the park each day,  I was so excited to reconnect in the classroom with the children I taught in the Yellow class last year!  It has been a long time since I last saw them in March, and they have grown so much!

This week we reviewed the Hello Song and greetings in English.  We also practiced basic instrucions for English class with the Actions Song.  Here is it so that you can practice essential understanding for the classroom at home with «stand up, sit down.»

We also began to practice colors.  We watched some videos about colors, talked about colors in the classroom and finally we made monochromatic towers.  Each student asked for one color and repeated it in English to get their blocks for their towers.

Here are the songs to continue practicing at home.

What a wonderful week in the orange class!  Have a great weekend!

Lindley

A Guest Teacher in the Red Class!

Hello!

I had a lovely week with the children in the Red Class as a guest English teacher!

This week we reviewed greetings in English with the Hello Song.  Not only did we revise «How are you?»  «I’m fine,»  but we practiced adding other answers: «I’m hungry» (Tengo hambre), «I’m tired» (Estoy cansado), etc.  We will continue to review and practice more feelings to be able to express ourselves.

We also reviewed colors and had a dance party with this Bounce Patrol song!

Here are some songs to practice at home:

I loved reconnecting with the Red Class!

Have a great weekend!
